What Is RaMP?

Reinforcement and Modeling with Prompting.

RaMP is a simple, research-grounded framework for teaching skills, supporting behavior, and helping people become more independent.

Most people don’t struggle because they don’t care. They struggle because they haven’t been shown clearly, supported correctly, or reinforced consistently.

This is how RaMP closes the gap.
The Framework

The Three Parts of RaMP

Each part has a distinct role. Together, they create a practical way to teach, support, and strengthen skills while building independence.

1

Reinforcement

Strengthen the behaviors and skills you want to see more often.

In practice

A student is immediately acknowledged for beginning the task.

2

Modeling

Show exactly what success looks like before expecting independence.

In practice

The teacher demonstrates exactly how to begin the task.

3

Prompting

Provide the right level of support and fade it as independence grows.

In practice

A quick, purposeful cue helps the student take action.

Why RaMP?

Why Strategies Don’t Always Work

Good strategies are hard to sustain when they are unclear, inconsistent, or too complicated to use in real life.

RaMP simplifies support into a clear, repeatable framework. Instead of assuming a learner already knows what to do, adults deliberately show the skill, provide the support needed in the moment, reinforce progress, and gradually build independence.

Putting the Pieces Together

How Does RaMP Work?

RaMP combines Reinforcement and Modeling with Prompting to make social, behavioral, communication, and independence skills easier to teach and apply.

Reinforcement strengthens successful behaviors and encourages learners to use developing skills again. Modeling shows learners what the skill looks and sounds like before they are expected to perform it independently. Prompting provides purposeful support during practice and is gradually reduced as the learner builds independence and generalizes the skill across people and settings.

Teach Clearly

Model the skill so expectations are visible and understood.

Support Purposefully

Use prompts that help the learner act without creating unnecessary dependence.

Build Independence

Reinforce progress and fade support as the skill becomes stronger.

Flexible by Design

Who Can Use RaMP?

RaMP is designed for educators, related-service providers, school teams, caregivers, and organizations supporting learners who need explicit instruction in social skills, behavior, communication, and independence.

The framework can be used in special education classrooms, general education settings, small groups, individual interventions, family routines, and professional training.

Special educators and classroom teachers
Counselors, behavior professionals, and related-service providers
Families and caregivers
Schools and organizations seeking practical training
The Creator

Created by Dr. Jasmine V. Sadler

RaMP was created by Dr. Jasmine V. Sadler, an educator and consultant with more than two decades of experience in special education, behavior support, curriculum, and school leadership.

She developed RaMP to help educators, families, and organizations turn research-based strategies into practical steps that can be taught, modeled, practiced, monitored, and generalized. The framework uses Reinforcement and Modeling with Prompting to support social skills, behavior, communication, and greater independence.
