Building Connections helps learners develop the foundational skills needed to notice, approach, respond to, and engage with others. Educators can teach the sequence as a progression or select individual lessons based on the learner’s current needs or IEP goals.
Each lesson includes explicit instruction, RaMP strategies, measurable IEP goals, Prompted → Independent → Generalized performance levels, guided practice, realistic scenarios, generalization opportunities, and progress monitoring.
Start with the skill the learner needs now. Each lesson can be purchased individually.
A separate ready-to-use resource for getting groups talking, interacting, and practicing connection skills.
View on TPTBuilding Connections teaches the skill. Social Skills in Action gives learners more opportunities to use that same skill when people respond, circumstances change, and the next move is not scripted.
Social Skills in Action extends Building Connections through realistic situations, partner responses, changing information, new contexts, reflection, and transfer across people and settings.
It can be used as a companion to the original collection or independently when a learner already has enough instruction to begin application practice.
K–2, Grades 3–5, and Grades 6–12 versions place the same target skill into age-relevant social worlds while allowing support to be individualized.
Age determines the social world; individual need determines the support.
Learners do not need to complete every skill in order. Use baseline observation, current performance, existing goals, and meaningful opportunities to choose a starting point, then teach, practice, observe, measure, and generalize the skill while fading support as appropriate.
Use clear, observable skill definitions with explicit instruction and examples.
Apply Reinforcement and Modeling with Prompting to support movement toward greater independence.
Use guided activities and realistic scenarios that can be adapted to the learner and setting.
Document Prompted, Independent, and Generalized performance.
Use measurable IEP goals and data collection tied directly to the skill being taught.
Practice across meaningful people, places, activities, and situations.
Each future collection will have its own instruction set and a corresponding Social Skills in Action companion so learners can move from direct teaching into realistic application.
